DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMMING
Rialto Square Theatre
Joliet, IL

The Director of Programming is a senior executive position with responsibility for achieving significant results in generating earned income for the Rialto Square Theatre and Complex . The Director of Programming is responsible for the direction and coordination of all Will County Metropolitan Exposition and Auditorium Authority (WCMEAA) activities and programs. Under the direct supervision of the General Manager, the Director of Programming will provide creative leadership for the establishment and implementing the Rialto ’s public programming which includes a variety of musical, theatrical, family and contemporary entertainment attractions.

Director of Programming will direct all activity from artist selection and contracting to overseeing production and related program department administration. The ideal candidate shall possess:

  • Experience in managing and leading an organization of similar scope, size and mission with a keen awareness for creating efficiencies that streamline operations

  • Ability to manage in a team-oriented small-office environment, develop employees, be supportive, cooperative and responsive

  • Prior experience with strategic planning and the ability to manage vision while at the same time keeping an eye on day-to-day operations

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Development and Administration

  1. Developing the season of programs through research, building and maintaining relationships with artists, agents, managers, promoters and creative collaborations with local/regional organizations
  2. Negotiation of performance fees and agreements including contract and rider review with revisions where necessary
  3. Preparation of event budgets which serve as the basis for creating talent offers and financial resource management
  4. Identifying all potential revenue development in conjunction with contracted events
  5. Managing all details of contracted events including lodging, travel and event settlement

Program Department Administration

  1. Work collaboratively with staff, delegating appropriate tasks, building an effective department team and developing the capacities and capabilities of Program Department staff
  2. Oversee fiscal reporting and accountability internally and externally
  3. Create and manage department budgets

RELATED DUTIES

  1. Represent the General Manager and the Rialto Square Theatre at various times that involves the programming of the theatre in support of community and/or economic development endeavors
  2. Participate along with other members of senior management in the creation and execution of the strategic planning process
  3. Prepare reports for regular WCMEAA meetings which characterize the programming efforts of the Rialto Square Theatre

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in arts management or related field with a minimum of five (5) years experience in arts and entertainment management, management of performances, working with artists and managers that has developed a good working knowledge of the entertainment industry
  2. Prior experience and successful track record in leading a complex, multi-faceted arts program
  3. Proven experience and knowledge of arts administration including conceptualizing, planning, producing and managing performing arts series, concerts, and special events
  4. Candidate should:
    • demonstrate excellent supervisory skills

    • excellent communication skills and good judgment

    • excellent time management and prioritization skills

    • computer proficiencies

    • work well in a team-oriented organization

Compensation
This position is a full-time exempt position with an annual salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include paid vacation; sick leave, medical insurance, paid holidays and related benefits provided Rialto Square Theatre administrative employees.

The Director of Programming is expected to be available evenings and weekends for events, meetings and activities when necessary. The Director of Programming is expected to attend all Board meetings and be prepared to give oral and/or written reports as requested.
