Albert
Einstein uses his Theory of
Relativity to travel through
time to help his distant relative,
10-year old Eddie Einstein in
this musical
adaptation from Face-To-Face
Productions .
Eddie is the nephew of the great
granddaughter-
in-law of the third cousin twice
removed of the world famous
mathematician, so everyone expects
him to love and excel at math.
But Eddie doesn’t even
feel math is relevant. As far
as he is concerned, all the
professions he’s considering-such
as Ace Detective, Star Athlete,
and Hip Hop Artist-don’t
even use it. So, Albert Einstein
puts his new
“Theory of Relevance”
into effect, arranging visits
from The Gr-8 Enumerator, Adam
Up, and Mama Meter. They and
the audience help Eddie explore
the fun you can have with math,
as well as it relevance to everything
Eddie wants to be.

The
Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley
|
| Monday,
October 22 at 10:30 AM ~ Grades
Pre-k-5 |
Stanley
Lambchop is your normal, every
day, run-of-the-mill kid. He’s
nothing out of the ordinary.
But one night while he’s
sleeping, the bulletin board
on the wall above his bed comes
loose and falls – right
on top of Stanley! And the next
morning, Stanley Lambchop wakes
up flat! Not just flat…Really
flat. At first it’s not
so bad. He can slide under locked
doors. His friends fly him like
a kite. And Stanley’s
the best in his class at Hide-and-Seek.
But someone has to do something.
And that someone is Stanley!
If he has to be flat, at least
he is going to make the best
of it. Stanley is going to put
himself in a big envelope and
travel the world – as
a human letter! And the adventure
begins!
In a whirlwind
musical travelogue, Stanley
– the ultimate pen pal
– scours the globe for
a solution to his unusual
problem. He’s stamped,
posted and cancelled from
South Africa to Mexico, from
Russia to England to China,
and beyond. And wherever Stanley
Lambchop goes, he meets new
friends, learns about different
cultures through song and
dance, and closes in on his
goal of being a three-dimensional
boy once more.

Swimmy,
Fredrick & Inch by Inch |
| Thursday,
November 8 at 10:30 AM & 12:45
PM ~ Grades K-3 |
Swimmy
is a tiny insignificant fish
in the vast ocean who uses ingenuity
to fend off danger. Frederick,
a mouse who is a poet from the
tip of his nose to the end of
his tail, makes everyday
life an artful experience. The
story of Inch by Inch features
a lovable inchworm who is very
proud of his facility for measuring
absolutely everything, including
a robin’s tail, a flamingo’s
neck, a toucan’s beak,
a heron’s legs, and a
nightingale’s
song. All these creatures provide
wonderful scope for translation
to puppet theatre through the
gentle storytelling style which
has brought international acclaim
to Mermaid Theatre.

Ballet
Folklorico& Anthony Sacre |
| Thursday,
November 15 at 10:30 AM ~ Grades
K-12 |
Ballet
Folklorico has been delighting
audiences throughout North America
for more than 30 years. Decked
out in lavish, flamboyant costumes
- some that feature spectacular
headdresses that reach a jaw-dropping
six feet in length, Ballet Folklorico
takes its audiences on a ride
of regional dances from Mexico.
The company, which can vary
in size from three to 25 performers,
introduces audiences to fascinating
folklore and magnificent ceremonial
rituals from regions of Veracruz
to Tamaulipas, including traditions
of the Aztecs, Michoacan and
may others. And they won't forget
to perform the famous "Mexican
Hat Dance." Ballet Folklorico's
entertaining and educational
program has charmed audiences
at schools, festivals, theaters,
parades and a host of other
venues.
Anthony Sacre has combined his
theatrical experience and training
and his diversity and educational
work to create "Looking
for Papito" (Parent’s
Choice Gold Award), an exploration
and celebration of his bicultural
upbringing in a Cuban and Irish-American
household. An incredibly funny
and touching performance piece
called "hilarious"
by the Chicago Sun Times and
"the best kind of storytelling"
by the Chicago Reader will delight
audiences with unforgettable
characters and masterful storytelling.
In the show, he navigates
the waters of his own two cultures
to bring back treasure: stories
that inspire audience members
to celebrate their own cultures
while learning about others.

The
Spirit of Harriet Tubman |
| Tuesday,
February 5 at 10:30 AM ~ Grades
3-10 |
Born
into slavery in Maryland, Harriet
Tubman
not only ran away alone to escape
slavery, she returned to the
south nineteen times to lead
over three hundred other slaves
to freedom in the northern United
States and Canada. Her work
as a nurse and a spy during
the civil war was instrumental
in helping the North defeat
the
South, thus forcing the abolition
of slavery in the United States.
Her entire life was spent working
for the benefit of others, while
asking little for herself. Now
THE SPIRIT OF HARRIET TUBMAN
continues that legacy. Unable
to rest as long as there are
those who need guidance, THE
SPIRIT OF HARRIET TUBMAN, returns
time
and again to tell her story
and share the things she learned
along the way.
On a minimally lit, barren stage
with a trunk of costumes, THE
SPIRIT OF HARRIET TUBMAN tells
stories beginning with being
hired out at the age of
six and going through her solo
flight from slavery, her involvement
with the Underground Railroad,
her victorious rescue missions
in the civil war, and her continued
commitment to others in her
later years. These stories are
told in Harriet Tubman's own
words here available. Leslie
McCurdy travels to the Rialto
from Canada for this compelling
one woman "docudrama"
valuable for its
copious historical content as
well as its artistic delivery.

Do
you know that all of us are
made up of Chemicals? “Close
Encounters of the Chemical
Kind” is a series of
exciting demonstrations designed
and selected for their proven
ability to stimulate the students’
curiosity. Explanations of
atoms, molecules, and chemicals
excite your younger students
while middle school students
enjoy more technical demonstrations
and discuss pursuing Chemistry
in high school as well as
possible careers in the Field.
Your students will make chemical
reactions that
will
change colors, fizz, and bubble!
They’ll also create
invisible ink and even make
flubber and superballs. Each
assembly involves over 60
student volunteers.

ArtsPower’s
Madeline and the Bad Hat, an
original musical based upon
the much-loved
book, captures the blithe yet
touching spirit of Ludwig Bemelmans’s
Madeline series. It traces the
adventures of a young Parisian
girl who – despite starting
off on the wrong foot with a
mischievous new neighbor –
eventually learns
that first impressions aren’t
everything. When
one fine day the Spanish Ambassador
moves
into the house next door, Madeline
and Miss Clavel and the other
girls quickly discover that
his son Pepito is a true horror!
Rude and conceited, Pepito seems
at first to be nothing but trouble.
But when he unexpectedly finds
himself in real danger, it’s
up to the resourceful Madeline
to get him out of it. Can she
teach Pepito a lesson into the
bargain, and does he have a
hidden good side after all?
This gently amusing tale of
enemies-become-friends will
charm and entertain children
and parents alike
