The critically-acclaimed Canadian celtic-rock band Great Big Sea emerged from Newfoundland in 1993 with their self-titled debut. The band is best known for performing energetic rock interpretations of traditional Newfoundland folk songs including sea shanties. Many of their albums – including Up, Sea of No Cares, Turn, Play, Something Beautiful and The Hard and the Easy – are certified gold or platinum in Canada and have cumulatively sold over one million copies.
